Crius shielded his eyes from the wind and the rain as it drove down at him like icy bullets. He was headed to the beach to get Nesoi after he had come home to find her gone and had his neighbor tell him she had braved the storm to go down to the water. His heart beat fearfully in his chest as he thought of her trying to swim in the churning waves. He knew she would be drowned if she tried. When he finally touched sand and could see the water, he brought his hands to his mouth and screamed, “Nesoi.” The howling wind carried his voice away. “Nesoi.” He tried again as he turned this way and that and walked along the beach. He became more and more terrified when he didn’t see her standing at the edge of the water and his mind filled with worse case scenario after worse case scenario. He knew there was a cave not far from where he was and he ran along the beach as fast as the sand and wind would permit him, hoping she was holed up there.
His boots slapped loudly in a puddle at the cave entrance, splashing the water up to add to his already soaked clothes. “Nesoi.” He yelled, his voice echoing in the darkness of the cave as he stepped inside.
“Crius?” Her voice came back at him, sounding somewhat abnormal.
“Where are you?” He asked and he heard movement and then saw her in the dim light coming from the cave mouth. He reached for her, his hand closing on hers and pulling her into his arms where he hugged her tightly. “What in the hell are you doing out here?”
“I’m sorry.” Her voice quavered and it was then he realized she was crying.
“What’s wrong?” He pulled back slightly, now more concerned than angry.
“It’s just I wanted to see my family, I hoped they would come up even in the storm to see me, but they didn’t. I got hit by a really big wave and had to come in here because I was too afraid to walk along the beach.”
“Nesoi, why would you come out here?”
“Because my birthday is coming up and I wanted to celebrate it with my family, but the storm is too strong.”
He rubbed his hands along her back, feeling her shivering. “Baby, you could have gotten killed. Do you have any idea what would happen to me if you died?”
“I know, I’m sorry.”
“Lets get you home and warm then we’ll figure something out.” She nodded and he lifted her into his arms. He went along the beach as fast as he could, hating she was getting soaked all over again. He was happy when they finally made it home and inside away from the storm. “Go up and shower.” She kept her hold on him and he looked at her face. “What is it?”
“Um, will you come with me? I want you to keep holding me.”
“alright” He carried her to their bathroom and started the water before stripping with her “you get in and I’ll grab us somthing to change into. I’ll hurry okay?”
“okay” she stepped in and he ran to their room, grabbing clothes then returning to the bathroom where he stepped in. Crius pulled Nesoi against him “please don’t go in a storm like that again”
“I wont…I should have known they couldn’t come….I just want to see them so badly Crius” He solicitously kissed her shoulder “I’m sorry I was angry. I was just scared. I know how much you miss your family. If I could give you back your tail I would in a heartbeat, no matter what it took to get it back”
“If I got it back though I wouldnt have you. I’d have to miss you then”
“I just want to see you smile. Even if I had to go to the beach and meet you that way for the rest of my life, I would still be happy because you’d be able to see your family as much as you liked.”
“I love you so much Crius, I promise not to scare you again.”
“Hush, it’s over and done with. All that matters is that you’re safe.”
They stood there holding each other a little while longer, Crius kissing her and whispering how much he loved her. They washed, rinsed and got out, quickly drying. He lifted her into his arms and carried her to bed, getting under the covers with her, but keeping her cradled in his lap. She had no real sense of modesty and he sometimes took advantage of the fact to be skin to skin with her. She didn’t seem to mind and even relaxed against him warmth, especially since he had promised to be good until she was ready.
“You okay love?” He asked softly as he ran his fingers lightly up and down her arm.
“I’m just so sad.”
“I’m sorry baby.” He tipped her head back and let his lips move gently over hers. Her face grew warm and she let out a little moan that sent an excited thrill through him. “I love you Nesoi.” He moved her off his lap and onto the mattress, laying her down and covering her. She was such a temptation. “Rest okay.”
“Will you be here when I wake up?”
“I need to talk to my sister, but I promise to return before you wake.”
“Okay.” He kissed her forehead then got up and dressed. He grabbed his jacket, slipping into it and pulling the hood up. He left the house, walking quickly down the road, glad the wind was at his back. He knocked on his sister’s door and she quickly opened it and ushered him in.
“What are you doing outside?”
He pulled his hood back. “I need to talk to you about Nesoi.”
“Still haven’t done it yet?”
He grabbed her ear and she laughed. “Shush.”
“Alright, I’m sorry. What is it?”
“Nesoi went to the beach today to see her parents and got stuck in the storm.”
“Is she okay?”
He sighed. “Physically yes, emotionally no. I want to get her tail back, I want her to be a mermaid again so she can go and see her family whenever she wishes. I hate how sad she was today, it killed me. I know it might mean we can’t be together, but I just want to see her smile. I want to find that demon and make a trade for her tail.”
“What kind of trade?”
“I don’t know, I’ll figure it out. I just needed to tell you I’d be going.”
She crossed her arms. “You’ll have to take her with you.”
“No way, it could be dangerous.”
She pulled his hair. “Stupid, she’s the only one who knows where the demon is and you can’t just disappear, she’ll just worry. You also have to find a way for you two to be together or she’ll never forgive herself.”
“I’ll talk to her in the morning then”
“good, you better.”
“I don’t know why I chose to talk to you meanie”
“Because you know I’ll make you make the right decisions. Get home to Nesoi and stop being such an idiot”
“Punk” he retorted with a smile then hugged his sister. Crius hurried home, changed then slipped back into bed with Nesoi. He laid there wondering is he could be changed into a mermaid as well. He also laid there wishing his sister hadn’t been right about needing to take Nesoi with him. He would feel much better if she was safe in his home but it wouldn’t be fair and it would take a lot more time if he left her here. She knew where the demon was who had been callous enough to take her tail to save her mothers life. What did a demon need with a fucking tail?
When Nesoi woke in Crius’s arms she filled with delight and kissed him. Crius hadn’t gotten much sleep since his mind had been so busy but he woke with a smile and kissed her back. “Morning Crius” she said and he answered ‘Morning my beautiful mermaid. What should we do for breakfast?”
“Muffins sound delicious”
“You look tired Crius, let me make them”
“Thank you” He said sleepily and she kissed him again “I’ll get you up when it’s ready” Nesoi jumped up and ran downstairs. Crius smiled, glad she wasn’t ill from being out in all that. He fell instantly back to sleep, gone to the world until Nesoi woke him “breakfast handsome”
He let out a little groan, but sat up and stretched then headed downstairs to eat. Nesoi smiled lovingly at him and he felt his entire being warm. He really loved when she was happy. “So how does the whole tail thing work?” He asked as they ate. “I mean you can come back here right?”
“Yeah, we can walk on land, we just prefer the water. I won’t just leave you you know, my home is with you. I just want to see my family again and their home is the sea.”
He reached out and stroked her cheek then leaned over and kissed her. He really couldn’t help it when it came to her. He always wanted to touch her and kiss her and hold her. “Sometimes I think you’re actually a siren.” He said softly upon parting their lips.
She blushed. “A siren? Why?”
“Because you keep pulling me in.” She looked away, her entire face hot. He kissed her cheek then took a bite of his muffin. “This is so good.”
“So tell me about this demon. How did you find him?”
“He was just near the sea, it wasn’t hard to find him. He was kind and polite, he didn’t forcefully take my tail or even ask for it. I had to give him something of equal value and then he promised my mother would get better.” She picked at her food. “He said I could get it back, but I don’t have anything to give for it.”
“I’ll figure something out”
“I’m grateful to him though I’m sad I can’t swim”
“He could have helped without taking something from you”
“well, I guess he might require you give something so he doesnt have a constant line of people asking him for stuff”
“Yours wasn’t a frivolous request” Nesoi smiled patiently “Not everybody is as giving as you and truly I am grateful Crius. I offered my tail and he saved her” He took another bite of Muffin and gently held her free hand. They finished breakfast then got ready to find the demon who had her tail.
Crius took Nesoi’s hand as they set out and they waved at his sister who yelled at them to be careful. “Listen Nesoi, I want you to stay close to me no matter what.”
“I will.” He pulled her close, his arm going over her shoulders. “I know not to wander off.”
“I just don’t want you hurt, you’re my everything.”
She smiled. “It’s the same for me. I love you.”
He kissed her cheek. “Alright, my sister found you on our beach, so that means you probably first met him somewhere outside of town.”
“I remember swimming along the coast and I was crying and then I spotted him. He was picking up shells, he said they were for his brother, for a project. He knew why I was out there right away, like he could see everything.” She sighed. “I don’t want you to hate him, I don’t think he’s bad.”
“Hopefully he’s reasonable enough to give it back.”
She giggled at the irritated look on his face. “You make the cutest faces.”
He blushed and leaned down, kissing her so she was left with a surprised look on her face. “You too.”
Her heart beat faster and she smiled, her face warm. In the end she was glad she ended up on land. It was what brought her to her soulmate. Crius had been such a good and patient boyfriend. She could see in his eyes somtimes how badly he wanted her but he never pressured her. She could trust him and he made her feel secure in the fact he would wait as long as it took because she was so much more to him than sex. Her mothers life and him were more than worth her tail.
Nesoi pulled away from him as they walked along the beach and pulled of her shoes. He watched as she walked close enough to the water that it could wash up and over her feet. He really did think she was the most beautiful person in the world. She looked so happy touching the water and it made him more determined to get her tail back. She could swim now with her human legs, but he was sure she missed diving deep down. She turned and smiled at him and he felt his breath catch in his lungs. He didn’t know what he had done to deserve someone like her. Sometimes he would lay awake and just take her in and thank the heavens he had made it home from the war.
“You’ve gone away my love.” She said as she went back to him.
“Sorry, I was too busy staring to notice.” He laced their fingers and she started humming. He enjoyed the little tune and just basked in her beauty and warmth. They finally stopped when she said she was hungry and he pulled out one of the little sandwiches he had thrown together and one of the bottle of water he had packed.
“I’m really glad the storm blew through, it’s so nice today.” She said as she turned her face up to the sun.
“I imagine it’s dangerous for your family to swim in choppy seas?”
“Yeah, we could get bashed again rocks or coral reefs or entangled in fish nets. We try to stay deep when it storms.”
They hung around the beach, hoping to see the demon. They kept returning until finally he was there and this time he had a blue haired man with him. Nesoi ran their direction “sir!” she called and Crius ran after her. Aeron said “you are always right, she’s here” She had been far enough away she didn’t hear Aeron say that. “Hello mermaid”
“I’m human now”
“Once a mermaid, always a mermaid..You want your tail back?”
“Yes, what do we have to do to get it?” Crius asked, looking serious. Crius looked so intenesely serious and Marius went through his mind.
“Do you see Aeron, he loves her more than anything.” He cocked his head to the side. “There is so much in you that wants to hit me, but you won’t do that, not in front of her. You don’t understand. I make deals, that is one of my gifts. When I take something, I give something in return, it’s that simple. You have given much Crius, time and innocence. You saw many die, but you gave life to others and never asked for anything in return. What would you give for a mermaid tail?”
“To make her happy, I would give everything. The sea is in her heart, it’s currents are her blood, she needs it like I need air. If you want something then take it.”
“I told you Aeron, I told you it would be love. He as a healers heart, it’s what he does, he fixes the broken things.”
“I’m coming to terms with the fact you’re always right Marius.” Marius smiled at his mate, making him look away in embarrassment. “Stop, it’s not fair. Just bring them over so she can have her tail.”
“What my mate wants he gets.” He looked back at Crius and Nesoi. “Come with me.” He opened up a portal and walked through. Crius held tightly to Nesoi’s hand as they followed. He was ready to defend her if the need arose. “You have no need to fear me human.” Marius said once they came out into the portal room. “I may be a demon, but I’m not a monster, at lease not unless I must be.”
“There’s no point in hiding anything from him,” Aeron said, “he can see every thought and memory, every want and desire so feel free to be honest, you won’t hurt his feelings.”
“We just want her tail.” Crius replied.
“Follow me then.”
Nesoi became excited when she saw her tail. Marius picked it up “are you ready to be one with your tail again?”
“what is it I have to give though?” Crius interrupted, still a bit hostile. Marius did his confused head tilt “I thought I was clear. You have already given enough, she may have her tail. You earned it for her”
“Really? That easy?”
“I told you he was a good guy Crius” Nesoi said then looked at Marius “please, I want to see my family so bad.” He said a few sentences in another language and the tail vanished. Marius and Aeron smiled “it is one with you again. When you call for your tail it will come. Want to try in my pool?” Marius offered.
“Yes, please. I want to show Crius.”
Marius guided them out and to the other side of his home where he had a large pool. Nesoi removed her shorts then lowered herself into the water and called on her tail as she dove. Crius thought she looked so beautiful as she glided through the water and jumped out, only to vanish beneath the surface again. “She is extremely happy, especially with you here.” Marius said.
“Do you really see everything?”
Marius nodded. “I can’t turn it off. I can see things about you and her, how happy she makes you, how protective you are of her even from yourself, your desires. You want her, need her even, but you take your time. You’re both nervous. She won’t run away you know.”
“Marius quit jerking him around.” Aeron said and the demon grabbed him and pulled him close.
“I only speak the truth and you should be nice, there is no where you can run you know.” He smiled lovingly at his mate. “Maybe we’ll visit the lighthouse, it is your favorite place after all.”
Crius shook his head and went back to watching Nesoi. When she was finally ready to come out, her tail vanished and he helped her out and handed her her shorts. “Are you happy baby?”
“So happy, thank you for bringing me.” She turned to Marius and Aeron and hugged them both, the latter hesitating a moment. “Thank both of you too.”
“I am glad your mother is well and consider this an early birthday present.”
“You seem happier than when you first met me”
“I didn’t have a mate when I first met you. Aeron has made my life so much better. It’s more than just about making deals, I have love” Marius loved how his words affected Aeron. “Let us take you home” Aeron said and Marius chuckled. Crius quickly spoke up “Please, can I give you somthing so I can have a tail too?”
“I knew you would ask. I think all your good deeds merit a tail of your own so you may go to her family with her” Crius could hardly believe his ears “thank you” Marius left wordlessly and they looked at Aeron “he doesn’t just have a tail to give you. He’ll be back, don’t worry”
“Who just has a tail to give?”
Aeron shrugged. “I don’t everything he does, just that he does it and it works.”
“How did you two meet?” Nesoi asked. A little bit of the happiness slipped out of Aeron’s eyes. “Sorry, you don’t have to answer.”
“It’s fine, I was dying and he offered to help me. If it wasn’t for him, I’d be dead.”
“What did you trade?”
“My soul. He gave it back though, I guess us falling in love with each other was payment enough.” He gave a small laugh. “He may not look it, but he’s really gentle and kind. He always comes off as distant to others, I’ve only ever seen him mad once.”
“Well I’m glad he has you.”
Aeron smiled. “I’m the lucky one, believe me.”
“Telling lies again love, when will you learn.” Marius’s voice had Aeron blushing and they all turned their attention to him. “And if you must know where I got the tail, it’s a donation from a sea god. If not for me, he would not have met his wife so if I ever need anything, he will freely give it.” He brought the tail over and Crius looked it over.
“It’s a healing color, you are a healer, it made sense to me.”
He said teh same words and Crius felt what he knew must be the tail becoming one with him. “We will take you home now” Marius said and Nesoi hugged Crius’s arm excitedly. They were transported home, alone on their beautiful beach “I want to see you in merman form!!” Nesoi said and Crius smiled, happy he would be able to do this with her. The two ran into the ocean and on newly found instinct he was able to turn his legs into a tail. It felt amazing, he moved so fast and she so easily kept up, looking happier than ever. They swam around, laughing and exploring. It took him awhile to realize how long he had been under and he didn’t feel bad atall, he was breathing the water somehow.
They played a little while longer before heading back to shore and both of their tails disappeared when they were waist deep in water. “That was amazing.” He said as he pulled Nesoi into his arms.
“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself, I’ve missed it.”
“Seeing you that happy has been worth everything I’ve gone through.” He tucked some hair behind her ears and held her face in his hands as he bent to kiss her. Her face warmed as his lips moved slowly against hers and he moved his hands down to her shoulders, wanting very much to touch her. He let his hands slid down her arms, his fingers gently caressing her skin so she was covered in goosebumps.
Nesoi turned her head, needing to catch her breath. Her heart was beating so fast she thought it might explode. “Crius, I’m a little nervous.”
“We can stop, I got a little carried away in all the excitement. I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry, I feel so stupid.”
He made her look up at him. “Never say that. I love you so much and that’s not going to change I promise.”
“But you’ve been so sweet and patient.”
“That doesn’t mean you have to have sex with me. I do things for you because I adore you, because I want you happy. Believe it or not I’m nervous too. I’ve never been so in love with someone in my life and I don’t want to disappoint you or scare you away.”
“I think it’s going to be amazing. I want to. I really do. I want to go home and make love to you…even when I get nervous I don’t want you to stop okay. You wont scare me Crius” His heart beat out a fearful rythm “Okay but don’t actually say stop unless you want me to. I wont keep going if you ask me to stop.” Nesoi kissed him “I want this Crius” He swept Nesoi off her feet and carried her home. In his bedroom he slowly pulled her clothing off, feeling her soft, damp skin. He wanted to admire her body, every last inch of it. He trailed kisses across her shoulders, down her arms and up her neck. He took teh rest of her clothes off, stepping back to really look at her.
His shaft hardening and pushing against his pants made her turn cherry red “Nesoi, we can still stop. Even when I’m inside you you can tell me to stop and I will”
“I want you Crius, don’t keep asking. Just make love to me” He took off his clothes quickly, barely able to control his want for her. He gently pushed her down, holding her arms where they met her shoulders as he explored her neck with his mouth. She began to moan, making him harder and making him feel a little more secure in himself. He’d hate himself if he didn’t please her, if she left this room disappointed in him.
He craved the softness of her skin and let his hands slide to her breasts, gently squeezing them so she let out a breathy moan. He trailed fingers over her abdomen, moving past her belly button to push between her thighs, his fingers sliding over and then in her. He kissed her, catching her loud moans as he explored, finding the spots that gave her the most pleasure. She clung to him, scared and excited, her breath coming out in loud panting gasps. “Ready?” He asked softly and she could only nod. “Hold onto me.” She wrapped her arms and legs tightly around him and he pushed quickly into her. He paused at her loud cry and damp eyes, giving her a moment. His hips took on a gentle rocking motion, his lips moving against hers to catch her cries.
Her words made his heart dance and he thrust into her a little harder. He lost himself completely in her, his moans matching hers. Her tight heat quivered around him and he picked up the pace, kissing her as he flowed into her depths. He kissed at the tears on her face and gently stroked her hair. “Good or bad?”
“Good, I’m so happy.”
He gave her another kiss then pulled out of her and lifted the covers over them. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her on top of him so her head rested on his chest. He stroked her hair and told her how beautiful and loved she was until she fell asleep. He had never felt such bliss and he wouldn’t give it up for anything.
The next day after breakfast they went to the beach again. He could finally meet her family and she could show them they could actually visit now. They ran through the water, effortlessly making their tails appear as they began to swim. Nesoi was so excited she was hard to keep up with but he managed, loving how much she beamed. If she was sore from losing her virginity she didn’t show it. Her father thought he was hallucinating at first when he saw his daughter swim towards him. She swam right into his arms “how is this so?” He asked, still not quite believing this was real.
“Marius, the demon, he gave my tail back. He said everything Crius has done was worth it and it earned him a tail too. Her dad looked over her shoulder then called his wife out of their home.
Nesoi’s mother was the happiest to see her and her father pulled her into their hug. “My baby girl, how is this possible?”
“My boyfriend got my tail back.” She gestured toward Crius who smiled at them and he mother swam over and hugged him as well.
“Thank you so much.”
“I’d do anything to make Nesoi happy.” Nesoi went back to him and Crius was happy to have her in his arms. “I wanted to see her smile.”
Her father cleared his throat. “So where did you meet?”
“He’s Theia’s brother, the human who gave me a home. Marius gave him a tail so he could come with me.” Nesoi answered. “He’s really the sweetest man in the world daddy you don’t have to worry about him.”
“Sorry honey, it’s just been hard. All I do is worry and hope you’re safe.”
“It’s okay, Crius is very protective.”
“You give him a break. He got our daughter back in the ocean where she belongs”
“well come in, please, see what your old home looks like now. We’ve made some changes. Your room is the only one we haven’t messed with” Nesoi and Crius swam inside behind her parents. Crius looked around. Their house was beautiful. he loved the different things they used to make the inside beautiful. They gave Crius a tour while telling their daughter about the changes. They spent the entire day with her family then headed back to the surface. Nesoi had to hug Crius again “Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover this Crius”
“I love you so much Nesoi. Your happiness is all I need”
“Last night too…that was amazing” He smiled as he rested his head on top of hers “I’m glad you aren’t sore” She blushed “I..I was but I was too happy to really care” Crius kissed her head and lifted her into his arms “I’ll carry you home then my beautiful mermaid” Mermaid, she finally was one again. In her heart she had never quit being one but now she was one in body aswell and she had her amazing boyfriend to thank for it.
