Cade & Holly

Chapter One

Cade had finally decided to head to bed when he heard Cliona crying in her bedroom. His heart sank, with the television as loud as he had it she could have been crying for hours. He kicked himself for not thinking she could possibly be emotional tonight after accidentally hurting him again today. She was such a sweet little girl and the most recent one he had adopted out of the foster system. He often took the troubled children, the children nobody else would keep since he felt they needed saving from the system the most. He opened her door but she didn’t notice she was so upset. “Cliona” he said gently as he sat on her bed. He wanted to hold her but she had been horribly physically abused by her birth parents and was easily scared. He knew it wouldn’t bring her the comfort he would be intending to give. “I’m sorry” read more

Luthais & Saskia

Chapter One

The first time she had seen him, she was only six years old. He had been sitting in a tree and had jumped down when she wandered away from her parents. He had ushered her back, a bit irritated, but hadn’t laid a hand on her. She hadn’t gone far, but he seemed to want to keep her away from the woods. She remembered telling her parents about the man, but they had found nothing and for awhile she had thought it was nothing more than a small child’s imagination. She was seventeen now and hadn’t seen him since, but she often felt another presence close by. She sighed as she walked, getting so lost in thought she didn’t even notice the wild dogs gathered around the deer carcass at first. It had not been there when she had gone to visit her grandparents. The dirty, scarred hounds noticed her presence and turned hungry eyes on her, growling as blood and saliva dripped from their jaws. She swallowed, taking a step back and then another as they started towards her. What was she supposed to do? One lunged and she screamed, turning and running. She could hear them behind her, barking and snarling as they chased her. read more

Suri & Hern ~Revised by Ashley Spivey~

Chapter One

One day Suri, a 24 year old woman, was walking in the woods outside her home. She loved to go on long strolls in the evening, especially after arguments with her mother whome she rarely saw eye to eye with. Today she decided she was going to go deeper in than ever before, needing to blow off more steam than normal after their most recent fight. Not that heated arguments were anywhere near new, they were just getting more and more common and harder to deal with. Her mother never approved of her, not a single choice she made. Especially because she had never settled down. read more

Fen & Saffron

Chapter One

Saffron ran as fast as she could, her heart beating fearfully in her chest as she listened to the wolves pursuing her. “Here little bunny, don’t be afraid.” One of them growled out and she let out a whimper. Why did she choose to go on her walk alone today? She always went with her brother, there was safety in pairs, but he had been busy and she had become restless. She looked behind her and that’s when the world fell out from under her and she was tumbling and sliding. When she hit bottom, she just laid there, her entire body hurting. She didn’t know how she had survived, she could see the drop off from where she lay and the wolves at the top pacing back and forth. She slowly sat up, pain radiating through her. She had cuts and scrapes all over her. She had to get out of sight before another predator came for her. She managed to get up and limp away, not daring to stop in case the wolves had decided to come down after her. She started crying when rain clouds moved over her and it only got worse when drops of rain fell on her. She was soaked by the time she found a cave and she sat down, pulling her knees up to her chest and shivering. She couldn’t believe this was happening. read more

Patrick & Kathleen 2

Chapter One

Patrick’s fists slammed into the punching bag at the gym, his focus on working out the anger he had previously felt. In truth he didn’t have any right to be angry. One of the women from his past had tracked him down and cornered him at work and when Kathleen had dropped by to drop off lunch, all she had seen was a woman standing two inches from him, his hands on her shoulders as he was pushing her away. He had tried to explain, but she had been deaf to his pleading. Now she wouldn’t even talk to him or look at him. He hated this, hated himself and hated that woman. He didn’t know what he was going to do or what Kathleen was going to do. His heart broke at the prospect of her leaving him. It had been two years since they started dating, two years of her smiles and laughter, of watching how excited she would get for conventions, of falling asleep with her wrapped in his arms, two years shattered in a matter of seconds. read more
