Eira pulled her cloak tight around her as she moved slowly through the snow covered forest, shivering with every gust of wind. Snow clung to her and her feet and hands stung and ached with how cold they were. She was lost, she had to admit that to herself. The storm had blown through and she had gotten turned around in all the white. She stopped, her breath puffing out in clouds as she caught her breath. What was she going to do? Jain & Saadet

Chapter One

Jain clutched his stomach around the arrow protruding from his lower abdomen as he trudged through the snow, his sword held in his right hand. He wasn’t sure how long he had been walking; an hour? two? He had left his dead horse back there after it had been brought down by archers. The ambush had been brutal. He had watched his brothers slaughtered, their blood splattering across his face and armor as he fought to help them. He had barely escaped and even now he wasn’t sure he was going to make it. He panted, his skin dotted with sweat that the cold air turned to pinpricks of ice. The toe of his boot caught a rock hidden beneath the snow and he had to brace himself on his sword to keep from falling all the way down. Arrow & Zaylee 5

Zaylee wore a huge smile as she cut up vegetables for the stew she planned on making when her husband came back with the meat. A horrible snow storm was coming that would keep them inside and make hunting much harder so they were trying to prepare meals they could store and reheat. He had gone after something big so they could make the stew as large as possible. Her five children still at home were happily playing in the living room, her four boys making their baby sister laugh. She had been starting to wonder if she could have a baby girl by the time little Nelly came along. read more
